DAY 14

Horror honcho John Carpenter presents three terrible tales of murder, beauty and possession anthology style with the help of a handful of household names.

Like most screen obsessed stooges, my attention span continues to dwindle day by day, so I’m an easy sell when presented an anthology horror movie. There exist many compendiums of creepiness out there, more notably Tales from the Crypt, Trilogy of Terror, The Twilight Zone…all of which moved the needle for VIPs of terror John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper to create horror/comedy, BODY BAGS (1993).

Originally slated as a Showtime television series, the plug was pulled mid production and it became a three-part film featuring John Carpenter himself costumed as “The Coroner” in bookend segments where he introduces each short while toying with various cadavers.

“Gas Station” – a woman takes an overnight cashier gig at a desolate fill up joint on the same evening a serial killer is running rampant. Creepy customers emerge, each more threatening than the next. It’s a revolving door of cameos from Wes Craven and Sam Raimi to Robert Carradine.

“HAIR” – Stacy Keach stars as a balding man whose experimental hair growth procedure results in a slithering alien bodily infestation. Bonus Debbie Harry appearance!

“The Eye” – Terror titan Tobe Hooper helms the final segment in which Mark Hamill plays a man possessed by a deranged killer after receiving an evil eye during a transplant surgery. Mark is doing cartwheels, acting for the back row, as usual. Bonus Twiggy appearance!
