DAY 22

Costumed punks and preps party at an abandoned mortuary on Halloween night and unleash a ferocious evil spirit.

Fondly recalling my younger years when Halloween night went from collecting candies down the street to the practiced game of ‘where can we drink these Smirnoff Ices’? The fraternizing friends from NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988) step up the party vibes by literally breaking into a decrepit mortuary to do their celebrating, something my anxiety would party poop out of existence. I loosened up eventually, chasing any opportunity to feign a séance in creepy spaces. To no avail, of course. Gay people, amiright?

Angela and Suzanne shoplift party supplies on their way to their Halloween shindig at the site of an allegedly haunted abandoned funeral home. A variety of costumed friends and frenemies convene to drink and dance until a séance unexpectedly invites a blood-thirsty evil spirit to possess the teens one by one, deceiving and decimating them as they flee for their lives.

I’m seriously lacking Halloween movies this spooky season, so NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988) feels like the quintessential fix for my candy cravings. It’s not a masterpiece by any means, but it makes for excellent background noise at your Halloween party.
